Artist villages all over Beijing are on the verge of demolition. Soujiacun is a village right next to Red Gate Residency’s studios that just past that point.

I really hate the cold. However, I consider snow an exception to the rule. The cold is unbearable, but the magic of a snowfall makes it justifiable. When else can a loud and dirty city like Beijing seem so delicate and pure?
Brought my camera into work to the get some shots after our Lantern Festival Day snow.

Spring Festival started off with a grand and epic display of fireworks. And then the fireworks exploded continuously for 14 days straight.

Last week I headed to northwest Beijing for a little more time exploring the abandoned theme park I spotted when I first got here. The parks name was to be Wonderland and was abandoned some 8 years back halfway through building. Now there are cornfields running through any usable land.
So that makes one abandoned Chinese theme park explored in America, and one abandoned Disney-esque theme park in China.

THE RED BEAN RED VELVET ::
In efforts to be more socially [and fiscally] responsible I’ve decided to try and explore baking with as few imported ingredients as possible. While exploring the local convenience store I came up with this moon cake inspired cupcake, red velvet cake baked with red bean paste filling, cream cheese frosting and sesame seeds on top. Fit for a sanlunche street vendor!
